In the morning, September 19, 2018, at the headquarter of the General Statistics Office (GSO), the Central Census Steering Committee (CCSC) held the press conference announcing the official results of the 2017 Economic Census. Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO, Standing Vice Head of CCSC, chaired the press conference. The press conference was attended by members of the Standing Group assisting the CCSC; leaders of units under GSO; representatives of ministries, line-ministries; and representatives of press agencies.
To implement the Decision No. 1672/QD-TTg dated August 26, 2016 by the Prime Minister of the Government, in 2017, the GSO as the Standing Office in collaboration with ministries, line-ministries and localities carried out the Economic Census, promptly collected, aggregated, processed information according to the proposed plan. Up to now, the aggregation of official data has been completed.
The 2017 Economic Census results reflect an overall picture of the development of establishments in the period 2012-2017 nationwide, by economic region and province. According to the results, establishments tend to increase slowly in the administrative and public service sector, but raise highly in the economic sector, especially business. This shows that the implementation of the socio-economic development policy for the period 2012-2017 has achieved the positive effect in the direction of streamlining the state management apparatus, creating conditions for the economic sector (especially business) to develop. The scale of the economy is expanding, the number of enterprises increases each year, the number of individual production and business establishments tends to slow down gradually. The 2017 Economic Census also points to the limitations of the business sector, which is a gradual decline in the average size of labor per enterprise, the fragmentation of individual production and business establishments and the slow progress of socializing public services. The information technology has not been applied effectively in State agencies, especially in local agencies. This is the big weakness and obstacle which needs to be considered objectively in the context that Vietnam has been implementing the fourth industry revolution.
In addition to the main content of the official results of the 2017 Economic Census, the GSO also introduced the thematic publications of this Census compiled to serve the information users’ research work.
